Speed GeekingHere is what our young experts
think of the experience: “I presented Google Apps. This is an online resource that you can use from every-where. You can make presentations and share them with people so you can work together. It was my second time to present and I felt pretty satisfied with it although I was a little bit nervous in the beginning. In the end I felt proud of our work together. Speaking in front of a group can be quite enjoyable. On the other hand speaking loud enough so that everybody could hear was a true challenge as it was very noisy in the hall. I’d love to present again because this is an opportunity to pass on to other students and teachers what I have learned in one of my favorite subject ICT.” (L., Gr. 5)“My group and I presented Google Docs on Friday. I felt proud of myself and I am happy that I presented. I enjoyed doing my part and answering people’s questions. I was a little nervous I would forget what I had to say. “Speedgeeking” was fun and I would definitely want to do it again.” (L., Gr. 5) “I presented Voice Thread. I felt a little nervous in the beginning but then when I looked at people I thought to myself: ‘You can do it, girl!’ and then I was alright. I enjoyed showing the self-portraits we drew. I was thrilled to see those people taking part in the meeting on Skype and how our teacher carried around an iPad showing them the “speedgeeking” sessions. I’d love to present more if they ask me.” (K., Gr. 2)
“I presented Voice Thread. This is an application for creating videos and commenting on them. I love the part with recording comments. But as I was trying to show how it works, something happened with the computer and it didn’t let me comment. We had to use my partner’s computer till the end of the demonstration. Presenting was easy and we made it well.” (P., Gr. 2 ) “I participated in demonstrating a Google Presentation. My favorite part was when we showed the functions of Google Advanced image search and also the option to work on the same presentation with other people at the same time. Speaking in front of a group of people was a little challenging. I’d like to take part in other “speedgeeking” session because we taught grown ups things we knew and they didn’t.” (M., Gr. 3) “We showed Google Presentations to teachers and people from Sofia and Istanbul. Talking to a group of people felt great. I liked showing people how to use the ADVANCED IMAGE SEARCH which would help them get pictures they can share and modify. It was funny that they were taking notes. I want to be in more “speedgeeking” demonstrations because it gives you the chance to show stuff to people who don’t know it.” (A., Gr. 3) |
“It felt good and rather important to have people learn how to use Google Apps from us. We explained the usage and the steps you have to take in order to make folders, documents, and other tools. I enjoyed it after the first group we taught left. I thought it would be scary before we did it, but it really wasn’t. It was challenging for me to know when to start. I was slightly nervous about messing up before each new group came, but it became easy after a while. I felt proud and excited the whole time I presented and I’m eager to do it again.” (O., Gr. 5)
