This was an unforgettable experience and we hope our little teachers will carry the joy and pride for years to come.
The “Explorers” website was a joint project designed to show-case the life and major discoveries of great European explorers. Our friends’ curriculum topic on explorers matched well our Gr.5 unit on European settlements in America. We decided to re-search and present twenty explorers from Italy, Portugal, Britain and France. A total of sixty students – 36 from AAS, Bulgaria and 20 from SH, USA - worked in groups of three to research and pre-sent one of the 20 explorers. Mr Gagnon’s students researched and planned content in a Google Doc which they shared with us so we could edit too. Both Gr. 5 classes from AAS worked to-gether to set up a Google site with four navigation tabs corre-sponding to explorers’ countries of origin. We gave all students View-Only rights for the whole site and editing rights only for the sec-tions they worked on. Students who finished first completed the home-page for each section. Our work comprised a lot of collaboration through Edmodo, Skype, Google Hangouts, Google Docs and Google Sites. During our Google Hangout at the Balkan Summit stu-dents were so excited, they sang a Christmas song together and they wished they were able to meet for real in the future.
“The Dot” Art Project took AAS Gr. 5 students on a virtual trip overseas to their buddies in New Hampshire, U.S. They not only met face to face, introduced themselves, but also collaborated and created beautiful artwork together using the online app http://awwapp.com. We started with one DOT and our friends, who came to school one hour earlier especially for our meeting, joined the canvases to complete the artwork. Along with practicing digital Pointillism, students learned lifelong skills of collaboration, cooperation and re-spect for others. A total of 60 participants engaged in connecting and sharing their ideas thanks to Art and Technology. |
